Titleholder In Action: Open Arms - Arms to Serve and Lead Through Service

Miss Arkansas Valley’s Teen, Makayla Harrell, works hard to give back to her community through her CSI: Open Arms: Arms to Serve and Lead through Service. She is constantly collecting non-perishable items to fill the “All Good Things” box in front of her local school.

She recently recognized a need for a new, upgraded box, and has began a coordinating this project!

The box that is currently in place is old and has issues with water leaking in. Upon discovery, Makayla went to the principal and asked if she could build a second box on the 8th grade side, because the original box is near on the 9th grade pick-up line.

The principal then referred her to the teacher in charge of Capturing Kids Hearts. Makayla started discussing how it would benefit the whole school if she builds a new one. She mentioned getting her friends and classmates involved to make a bigger impact, and potentially moving the box to a central location in front of the building. 

Makayla then took her mission to church and shared her praises and thanks for getting approval from the school. As soon as the preacher heard her story, he wanted to be part of this mission. He offered to help build the box and will be providing all of the materials.

She gathered plans for the layout, dimensions and materials and provided those to the principal. He then shared it to the maintenance personnel that will be assisting with the placement. They both approved it and are now waiting on clearance to put the box in place.
